There are two ways blinds can sit at your window; either inside, or outside the recess. In this world, we refer to this as reveal and face fit. Both have their own advantages. For instance, blinds that are fitted inside the frame are more snug and add to insulation. Outside mount blinds can make the window space look bigger than it is. So it all really depends on your wants.
Once you’ve decided where you want your blind to sit, you want to grab your tape measure and a pencil. Make sure to measure in millimetres.
Here’s how to measure for Venetian blinds, both inside and outside mounted:
OUTSIDE:
WIDTH
- a) Measure the exact width you would like the blind to cover.
- b) Measure to the outside of the architrave or at least 50mm past the window opening.
HEIGHT - a) Measure the exact height you would like the blind to cover.
