The Benefits of Having Custom-Made Roller Blinds

roller blinds

Of all window furnishings out there, we swear by custom-made roller blinds. They’re simple, straightforward, functional and available in a wide range of options to make your life easier.

When it comes to it, choosing the right window furnishings for your home is easier said than done. Once you deep-dive into research and are faced with making decisions, things get a little trickier.

As an important part of your home decor, they not only refresh your overall design scheme, but are also functional. For instance, they come with benefits such as temperature control and blockout features which are necessary for insulation and privacy. Two key things a home should have.

By instinct, many immediately head to a retail store to buy some roller blinds off-the-shelf. While this definitely works for time-constraints, there’s not much else they offer. For this reason, custom-made roller blinds are worth looking into. As they’re tailored to your unique needs, you can be sure that they’re built for you. You may also be surprised to learn that the way we do it, they end up cheaper than the ready-made versions.

We’re all familiar with roller blinds, seeing as how they’re one of the most popular blinds around. From homes to offices, they help create a cosy environment in any space.

And here at Wonderlux, we’re experts on the subject. We can help you make the right decisions to suit your requirements. We’re going to cover some of the main areas related to this topic here. In particular, we will be covering the benefits of having these specific blinds. So if you’re looking to modernise your space with our custom roller blinds, read on.

1. The Perfect Fit

This is what your blinds should aspire to. Ill-fitting blinds are like a poorly tailored dress. They’re dowdy, hang drearily, and simply do nothing to accentuate the space. Additionally, you’ll either be constantly having to move the blinds out of the way, or having to deal with light.

At the end of the day, your window furnishings must be functional. It’s absolutely no use having blinds that only look good around your home. Custom-made, well-fitting roller blinds will help you tick off all these boxes, in one go.

The primary benefit to these blinds is that they’ll be the ultimate, perfect fit. This means they sit snugly inside or outside the window frame, ensuring no light or visibility gets through. During the day this can be very useful when you’re looking to have a daytime nap. At night, you can look forward to uninterrupted sleep. That’s because when the blinds cover all the edges of your windows, not even slivers of light can pass through. And then of course aesthetically speaking, your space will look neat, streamlined, and organised.

How to Measure for Roller Blinds

Here we’ll take a quick look at the best way to measure for roller blinds so you can achieve this fit. We also highly recommend watching our videos in our guides section, here.

a) Measure the exact width you would like the blind to cover.

b) Measure to the outside of the architrave or at least 50mm past the window opening.

2. Option of Cordless or Corded Blinds

Perhaps your house is home to kids and pets. In such instances, safety is a top priority along with how to clean roller blinds. We know how curious they both get, and cords in blinds can pose an issue in this regard.

Which is why we’ve taken this into consideration with our roller blinds. You have the option of choosing corded blinds if you wish, but if not, we have another solution. Cordless blinds.

We have a feeling you may opt for this even if you don’t have babies or fur babies, simply because of their convenience. With up to 15 blinds programmable on a single remote, you never have to leave your comfy spot. You can keep watching your favourite show and never miss a beat, while adjusting your blinds the way you want.

Plus, your toddler or pet won’t be tempted to tug on any cords or play with them. They simply aren’t there! Which in turn means peace of mind for you when they’re left to their own devices and you’re occupied with something else.

3. Choose from Blackout or Sheer Roller Blinds

You also have a wide range of choices when it comes to custom-made roller blinds. Did you know you can get them in different types?

You’ll find that roller blinds come in 3 main categories:

  • Blockout (blackout)
  • Sunscreen
  • Light Filtering

The latter two could probably be broadly classified as ‘sheer’ roller blinds as that’s exactly what their trait is. Unlike blackout roller blinds which completely keep light out and maintain 100% privacy when rolled, sheer rollers provide visibility. This works both from inside to out, and vice versa.

So to solve the dilemma of which ones you should go for, we recommend double-roller blinds. They’re also known as day night roller blinds. These blinds come in pairs of 2, and are fitted on the one bracket. Typically the combination includes one outer blockout layer, and one inner sheer layer. This could be light filtering or sunscreen.

The beauty of this system is that you get the best of both worlds. You can roll both blinds up when you feel like opening it all up, or use one at a time. So in the day for instance, you may keep the light filtering fabric down, and the blockout rolled up. This allows you to make the most of your views, while limiting visibility into the home. When nightfall comes, simply roll the blockout back down. Discover the beauty of our roller blinds collection and browse through all our options in both these categories.

4. Handpick Material for the Roller Blind

Another fantastic benefit to custom-made roller blinds is the choice of material. When you buy off-the-shelf, you pretty much have to go for what they have. So whether the fabric is what you wanted or not, because you need the blind, chances are, you’ll buy it.

But what a shame! Why spend that money on a product you don’t love 100%, when you can save it for one you do? With made-to-measure blinds, you can not only get a glove-like fit, you can also handpick your favourite materials

This opens up a whole new world of possibilities. For example, you can now play around with your interior design scheme. Do you have a theme? If so, are you sticking to it? Or maybe you had a scheme but have now gotten tired of it. You can start with a blank canvas and start testing out different ideas. Our extensive collection features bright, bubbly colours to perk up muted spaces, and fun patterns for a dose of vigour. On the other hand, we have neutral shades that’ll help balance a room out effortlessly.

There are also fun kiddie prints to pick from, so you can make bedtime a little easier on everyone. You can transform their room into a fun, engaging space, so they’ll always feel safe, secure and comfortable.

Additionally, if you choose double-roller blinds, you can mix and match between blockout and sheer blinds. This will add texture and personality to your window furnishings, and give your space different moods throughout the day.

5. Transparent process

Truthfully, how much do you know about that retail store in the corner selling window furnishings? Where are they manufactured? Are they passing on unnecessary costs onto you? How about after-sales services?

There are many questions that can come up with ready-made blinds. With custom-made roller blinds however, you’ll be able to answer these questions much more easily. For example, our blinds are manufactured right here in Australia. Our factory is based here as are our staff, and we keep everything local. This means we don’t pay anything extra for middlemen, and also source our fabrics from within the country. In other words, it’s 100% local, so in the event something does go wrong, you know the team is easily reachable.

How Much Do Roller Blinds Cost?

Typically, more than they’re worth. But we offer all this, for up to 70% less than normal retail prices you’ll find in a showroom. Not to mention, it’s all done from the comfort of your own home. Go ahead, start browsing and pick your next set of brand new roller blinds, custom-made especially for you.

Last but not least, our bespoke blinds come with expert advice. Our consultants are always available to chat and offer their insights when you’re looking to buy blinds online. We can help you determine not only which style of blinds is right for you, but also work out issues. There could be obstructions on and around your window that may throw your measurements out. Don’t sweat it, just let us know and we will help you.

We will also look at things like whether the home is a rental or your own. Also, if there are any specific issues you want to resolve, such as insulation and privacy.
